When the world celebrates the Christmas season, let us look into the two great facts regarding the reason for this season to make our celebration fruitful.

Who is Christ?

He is the word of God who was in the beginning with God and was God.(John 1:1) He was in the form of God and equal with God. (Philippians 2:6)

Everything visible and invisible was created through Him. That was nothing that was not created through Him. (Bible verses used John :1-3, Colossians 1:16) When that word of God became flesh as Jesus in the womb of a virgin called Mary, God begot a Son. He is the very God manifested in the flesh – God in human form. He came in the likeness of sinful flesh. But He had no sin in Him as we have. (John 1:14, Hebrews 1:5, Romans 8:3, Hebrews 4:15)

Why did He come?
His very name tells the purpose of His coming. Matthew 1:21 records ‘She will bear a son and you shall call his name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins’.

Then we read in 1 John 3:8 that the reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. The works of the devil are the sins in man. Christ came to destroy the sins in those who believe and love Him.

The Lord Jesus taught ‘ If you abide in My word, you shall be My disciples indeed. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free(from the power of sin)’.(John 8:31,32).He also said ‘He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me’.(Matthew 10:37). He demands our best love. He wants us to love Him more than anything else in the world.

How can we love Him whom we haven’t seen? That is possible only by a living faith that comes by reading His word (The new testament). When we read that with a sincere heart, the savior will start speaking to our hearts and will delight us by His enlightenment. Then we truly appreciate how great He is. With that faith, we need to repent from our sinful living and call upon His name, if we have never done so. Then the Holy Spirit of the Lord Jesus comes into us and regenerates our spirit and we experience the deliverance from the power of sin that is dwelling in our flesh. (Romans 7:17).

May the word of Christ(the truth in the new testament) dwell in us richly, the works of the devil (the manifestations of the sin that dwells in our flesh) be destroyed and the grace and peace of God be multiplied in our lives.
